About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated Engineering Intern to join our team. This position offers an excellent opportunity to apply your academic knowledge in a real-world setting, particularly in process engineering, data analysis, and systems optimization. The intern will work closely with our engineering team to support key projects that enhance operational efficiency and optimize our systems and processes.

Internship Details:  

  • This is a 10 Week Summer Internship Program starting on May 27, 2025 and ending August 1, 2025.  
  • Interns are expected to be in Jacksonville for the duration of the program.   
  • Daily work schedule is hybrid or onsite.  Fully remote is not an option.  
  • CSX provides optional intern housing for the duration of the 10-week program, as long as the selected intern meets eligibility criteria  
  • Competitive hourly pay   

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process Engineering Support:
    • Assist in documenting, mapping, and optimizing industrial processes using software tools like Visio and AutoCAD.
    • Support the development of simulations and models to optimize equipment and process performance.
  • Data Analysis & Systems Optimization:
    • Conduct data analysis using Excel, MATLAB, Python, or R to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement in our operations.
    • Work with database management systems to organize and retrieve data for analysis.
  • Project Management Assistance:
    • Support project managers in planning, executing, and closing projects related to equipment maintenance and process optimization.
    • Help coordinate tasks, track progress, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Communication & Documentation:
    • Prepare detailed documentation of processes, procedures, and project findings.
    • Present data insights and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Collaborate with team members to ensure clear and effective communication across projects.
  • Collaboration & Learning:
    • Engage with team members to gain hands-on experience and understanding of heavy or industrial equipment operations.
    • Contribute to team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and project discussions with a collaborative spirit.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background:
    • Currently pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
    • Coursework or knowledge in process engineering, data analysis, and systems optimization.
    • Familiarity with heavy or industrial equipment is desirable.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel, MATLAB, Python, or R.
    • Experience with database management systems.
    • Familiarity with process mapping and simulation software (e.g., Visio, AutoCAD, Arena Simulation).
  • Analytical Skills:
    • Strong quantitative skills to analyze and interpret data.
    • Ability to model and optimize complex systems and processes.
    • Capability to identify inefficiencies and suggest improvements.
  • Communication Skills:
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to document processes clearly and effectively.
    • Capability to present data insights and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Interpersonal Skills:
    • Team-oriented mindset to collaborate effectively with other team members.
    • Eagerness to learn from others and contribute to projects.
  • Project Management:
    • Some understanding of project management principles.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
